The Sultans mother, “Walida al-Sultan”, or more informally “Al-Sayyida” (the lady) is a 53 year old power behind the throne. Although largely hidden from public view she is the go to woman for solving diplomatic issues and approves all royal marriages. Of course the gossip in the bazaar is that despite being a widow she remains a sensual woman who hosts a legion of lovers in her private quarters.
